Yobe Islamic Centre, Damaturu was established in 1993 as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with the aim of strengthening Islamic Education and Culture.
Construction work on the mosque Edifice started in 1994 with Arab contractors. Appeal fund was launched to raise money to Continue with the work in 1995. The contractors completed the sub-structures but due to paucity of fund the contract was mutually terminated.
The construction work continued through direct labour which was executed by the Technical Committee up to 9metres height, roofing level. The State, Local Governments as well as individuals have been contributing financially.
Because of the civil work involved in the roofing which requires heavy duty plants, the roofing was contracted to Silver Crescent Nigeria Limited while the finishing was also given to Standard Construction.
